5 Reasons for growing my own food.
Its been a few days since I last posted. I've nothing really to write about the garden because I havn't been out there for days.
I'm currently in semi-hibernation. Winter and me don't really get along. Dark nights just make me want to hide. But they are getting lighter and I'm no longer coming home from work in the dark.
I am however feeling pretty tired in general right now. Its currently just gone 8pm and I'm in bed. Once I've fnshed writing this I'll watch some videos then listen to an audio book.
Before I do that I thought I'd write some reasons I have for producing my own food.
#1 although not originally at the top of my list but was pretty much there is Health.
Both physical and mental health. I don't feel my best right now. I've not stepped on the scales yet ths year and feel pretty sluggish both physically and mentally. Hopefully later in the year I'll be writing about how great I am feeling.
#2 everyone is worried about money right now. Household bills are set to increase. The energy price can got increased today. National insurance is set to increase in a couple of months.
My last post pretty much spells this point out. How much can I "earn" growing my own food?
#3 animal wellfare. I am still stuck into the factory farming trap. My meat I buy comes from the supermarket. The one thing I haven't bought in a while is eggs as I get a few off my quail right now. I started keeping quail after reading about laying hens beaks getting lasered to stop them pecking each other.
#4 reduce the use of fossil fuels. I'm not just talking about in transport and packging. Our whole monoculture farming system relies on natural and mining phosporus. I've only just learnt this nugget of information. We need to exract massive quantities of gas to make fertilser (the reason we had a shortage of CO2, gas prices are too high). Fertilser prices are going up so food prices will therefore increase.
#5 save the bees and everything else that buzzes and pollinates in the garden. I was reading last year that there are more bees or species of bees found in cities than the countryside.
I have many more reasons to be growing my own food but right now I'm tired and not feeling the most creative to write anymore. One more day at work and it will be the weekend. This weekend I have Jasper and we're going to build a green house. Or get one started at least.
